I am...: an artist from Melbourne, Australia and work mainly in the mediums of painting and drawing.

About my artwork: Robert Scholten's art encompasses a world of realism tinged with the fantastic; a desire to integrate the extremes of human experience: the sublime and the profane, the reality and the immaterial, the inner and the outer.

Inspired by sources such as European painting, ukiyo-e, typography, printed ephemera and everyday life, Robert plays with the fragments of existence, sewn together by the experience of the individual.

Artists I like: Extremely hard question but here goes ... leonardo, picasso, rauschenburg, brett whiteley, matisse, kiefer, rembrandt, raphael, bosch, el greco, velazquez, goya, utamaro, hokusai, de kooning, pollock, twonbly, pfaff, jack kirby, polke, salle and always many, many more...

Interests: Art of course. But also other stuff like wine, playing sports, daydreaming in the park.
