If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Digital, Film, Installation, Photography, Video
I am...
I'm a writer/photographer, experimental film-maker and Co-publisher of Sky of Ink Press... a film and photography instructor.
About my artwork
here are my photo work and shorter films/videos. The photos, taken over many years record landscapes and portraits from across the Yucatan to Labrador, Montreal shop windows to Toronto Island and California. My documentary essays on female impersonators (Facade) and the religious ritual (Holy Week in Spain - Seville) capture ritual as performance and vice versa. In recent short films like A Spanish Tale and Cutlery both memory and identity are a central theme. I'm fascinated by snapshots and the process of uncovering meaning in the traces in daily objects and family snapshots. Currently, I'm working on writing projects, (a novel, some poems and essays). A .chapbook of my poems has just been published by Sky of Ink - SIT-UP. Also editing a selection of photographs for a possible exhibition and book. Anyone with a digital camera is a photographer and film maker nowadays. The pollution of atrocious imagery is rampant. How wonderful to see that the work of a true craftsman of the art of film can still cut through the fog.
