About my artwork

The Floating Landscapes series presents images of utopic places emerged on a fable atmosphere, in which elements of real and imaginary architecture are mixed to construct another model of architecture, an utopic architecture of miscegenation.
The idea of a floating landscape comes from the Japanese word Ukyo-e, that means "pictures of the floating world", and it was used to call the pictures that were made on the Edo Period, with woodcut that captures the pleasure of the urban life and the love for the nature, typical of this time.
This mixture of elements creates new morphologies for the cities, but also creates strange historical narratives where a skyscraper can have an Islamic dome on the top or a soccer stadium cam be decorated with Roman pilasters. All the elements of real buildings are mixed with other elements. This situation disconnects the image in the drawing from the initial reference, creating the sensation of a déjà vu.
Drawing is the basis of my body of work. The thinking on drawing drives my incursions on other mediums like sculpture, animation and architecture. Simplicity and immediacy of the drawing are powerful characteristics of this medium. Other important characteristic that interests me is the possibility to stay in a limbo between the sketch and the finalized, the simple and the sophisticated, in a way that can't be offered by any other medium.
