Katrin Sigurdardottir to represent Iceland at Venice in 2013

Katrin  Sigurdardottir has been announced as Iceland's representative at the Venice Biennale in 2013. Recently Sigurdardottir has has solo exhibitions of her largescale, frequently architectural sculptures, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, Suburban, Chicago, Eleven Rivington, New York, PS1 Contemporary Art Center, New York, Galeria Leme, Sao Paulo, Brazil and Frac Bourgogne, Dijon, France. Mary Ceruti, and Ilaria Bonacossa are to curate the pavilion.

Fulya Erdemci named 13th Istanbul Biennial curator

Turkish curator Fulya Erdemci, who is currently the director of the Amsterdam-based SKOR Foundation for Art and Public Domain has been selected as curator of the upcoming İstanbul Biennial. Erdemci was selected by the İstanbul Foundation for Culture and Art (İKSV), which organizes the prestigious contemporary art event which is set to run from September through November 2013.

Goya painting found in Mumbai flat

In a recent raid on a Mumbai property for unlicensed firearms police were to happen across a priceless painting painted by none other than Spanish artist Francisco Goya. The painting depicts Saturn devouring his sons, and stands to be one of the artist’s most famous works. Over 400 stolen Karel Appel works found

The once leading member of avant-garde Cobra group (1948-1951) and long-time expressionist, Dutchman Karel Appel has recently had over 400 stolen works discovered in a warehouse in Britain. The works went missing when en route to his then newly formed foundation in Amsterdam. The loss was immediately reported to police but never recovered. As such the haul has been listed on the Art Loss Register’s database as ‘most wanted’ stolen art.

Timothy Potts, erstwhile director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, has been announced as the new director of the Getty Museum. Potts will fill a gap left more than two years ago by the departure of Michael Brand.
