I am...
I concentrate on drawing painting and digital art.At the moment i'm working on a web-site for my art and thoughts. It has made me realise how thin the line is between art and design. I'm heavily influenced by abstract artists who peaked in the first of half the 20th Century. I'm a christian with an open mind and believe art and theology are closely linked especially with artists seeking any meaning to life.
About my artwork
This is written by my agent Steven Highlands

Neville Longmore's work is based on a succinctness of form. and movement

He works to clearly defined terms and does not comprise his creative flow. Longmore's life is lived through his work. The depth of confidence in his work which is self-evident has been achieved patiently and meticulously over a period of years
The observer could be forgiven for seeing something of Heron in the work, especially in the works using gouache. Gouache, water and paper can be an uncompromising combination if not treated with understanding. These three elements can be a true test of an artist Longmore can work in this medium with the same strength as that achieved in oils. The fluidity of the paint is controlled but not restricted which enables us to visualise the movement which is at the heart of his paintings
Oils by Longmore are approached with a confidence. The canvas is not overstretched enabling him to use the movement of the canvas to work with his flowing brush strokes combining this with an urgency to apply the paint. The overall result is stunning.
Having covered movement and form we are left with colour. The palate is pleasing to the eye, not garish or a clash of colour but a sympathetic amalgam
Artists I like
Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman, Pablo Picasso, Vincent Van Gough, Arp, Goya, Turner, Da Vinci, Franz Marc, Henri Rousseau, Adolph Gottieb, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko.

Originality

Originality

“Original adj. relating to the origin or beginning;

earliest,primitive;novel;unusual; inventive,creative."

At the lowest level of our brain there are thoughts and memories seeking others. There and in the soul is where the truly creative and original ideas emerge. Influence and experience help to form these into ideas but we should try to find the origin of creativity where "deep meets… Continue

Jackson Pollock

Symbolism and Psychology

In the late 1990's I was at a Jackson Pollock exhibition in London at the Tate Gallery. What inspired me the most were not his more famous drip paintings but his earlier work.

He had produced some therapeutic drawings for a Jungian psychologist and they were exquisite. The subject matter was dark, he was getting out his demons on to the paper.

One painting from the 1940's had imagery which felt as deep as its title "Guardians of the secret” The outer edges… Continue
