MARCO BONAFE'

" MY COM "

SOLO EXHIBITION

Much of Bonafè's practice focuses on the fabrication and performance of reality, exemplified in the next current exhibition " My Com " a discover on the construction and destruction of the icons of our age. The images are translated into digital art and painting often executed in one sitting. Resisting any objective documentation, the artist distorts his material through the imprecise nature of his technical means as well as through varying levels of interest and engagement. Some works are heavily worked-over, and others looser and more gestural. Bonafè utilizes painting and digital images as a performative tool, allowing him to symbolically take ownership of his source imagery, and as a deadpan form of parody, mimic formulas of knowledge and authority in an incongruous vernacular. Even in their de-contextualized form, the works are clearly recognizable as coded tropes belonging to established genres.
The works represent the dissolution of authoritative icons, with examples ranging from photos or internet images that share a romantic valorization of decay and destruction.

In the era of communication he says that the icons are manipulated by power of the information and that we have to manipulate in order not to be manipulated.

A young artist in the main theatre of contemporary art with a similar objective deserves the utmost consideration of critical and market.

Only a strong cultural education combined with a vigorous strength and vitality of art can meet this challenge.

I suggest to collectors as one of the best talents on the international scene.

Marco Bonafè is an Italian-born artist who lives and works in Palermo and London and now is opening own studio in New York. He published his catalog for this NY exibition at the Gelabert Studios Gallery, 255 W - 86th Street, at Broadway.

The Opening will be held on Thursday October 9th at 6 pm.
