I am...
Miguel left his home town Manchester to study Fine Art at Humberside University in Hull, UK where he explored the cold and industrial cities of the north of England. He was a finalist at London’s Mercury Prize Art Competition in 1999. He has also embarked in a career as a successful illustrator from his studio in south London. Miguel has travelled through the urban landscapes of London, Manchester and Buenos Aires. These paintings are a response to the movement, energy and the lives that inhabit these huge cityscapes. Miguel is also interested in exploring the intimacy and reflective feelings of that the urban environment has on him. Feelings of being enveloped and surrounded by millions of people going about their business and the sometimes pleasant or unpleasant feeling of distance and alienation this brings.
Cities are full of life, laughter, pain, love, all the feelings and things of humanity; they are inspiring colourful places.
Miguel currently lives and works from his studio in London, He is half English and half Spanish and also works as an illustrator under the name of Migy.
