I am...
I am a neo expressionist painter. I am truly in love and dedicated to the world of art. I am living in NYC . In 20 years time scholars and critics will realize this major part of art history in America was shadowed by the Manhattan bridge overpass. They will write about it and lecture on it. True genius is always overlooked the artist community i am part of is doing their own thing and someday years from now and most likely after our deaths our work will be displayed up town but our hearts and souls will remain in the tenements and abandon factory studios of Brooklyn New York.
About my artwork
My work is raw and primitive . I like the canvas or what ever medium I'm using to look busy like the street. I am not doing anything original as far as style but i am doing some things that are unique and not seen to much in the mainstream. Like i said i am a neo expressionist painter so their for most people who see my work right away try to identify with it and compare it ... Most compare me to Jean Michell Basquiat because Julian Schnabel made a film about him and his works have reached the masses. But i assure you my work was not influenced by Basquiat i didn't even know who he was until 2003 when i first came to NYC to sell my work.. Jean Michell Basquiat had such a huge collection of works done at the time of his death,That guy really turned them out. So as i make pieces i find that no matter what i paint or write on a canvas it can be linked to Basquiat somehow. The more you are exposed to this kind of work the more you will realize not even Basquiat was completely original -guys have been rebelling against expressionism for over one hundred years. You just dont see their work hanging in the galleries listed on your little Chelsea art gallery tour map. Sometimes i visit galleries i am featured in and stand quietly and view my own work ..I watch the tourist come threw and listen to their comments about my pieces. Some times i may initiate a conversation by saying something like "I wonder who the weirdo is that made this". and then they will give me their thoughts or if they like the work they act offended and walk on.
Artists I like
At this time my favourites are my friends Matt Sesow and Kiki Valdez 2 amassing artist both considered Neo Expressionist well Kiki was recently called a NEON Expressionist by an article in Burrows Magazine but these guys are doing some brilliant work. If you ever make it down to South Beach Miami check out Kiki's mural on club Beds' wall...The guy is truly the Picasso of the Nintendo generation....
Interests
My interests would be my work ,my research and subject material. Collective purchases and girls. I spend most of my time stretched out between NYC and Pennsylvania were my son lives.. I recently got custody and have adopted my x-girlfriends kid and am raising him with the help of my parents down in rural Pennsylvania...On average i spend 3 days out of my week with him at this time i dont think it would be a good idea to completely up root him and bring him up here to NYC..New York is only a transition for me some day i hope to reach a level of security and return to the Amish country and open my own private gallery with international artist. I at this time have allot of prospects ranging from creating collaboration pieces with well known and established artist to leasing works for backgrounds in major motion pictures. I like doing shows quarterly and i love to travel. I plan to participate in this years Miami Art Basil maybe ill see you their.

Yocum is brilliant . He articulates the unexplainable through electric lines and vague images, without clarifying the details. With bold colors and poignant images, he would rather give the viewer elements with which to create their own thoughts and feelings rather than have them extrapolate his personal message or agenda.

"As though he were tearing pages from a diary written in a foreign language, he keeps his secrets while unabashedly exposing the words in the form of conflicting images and sharp edges." Studying his work is like looking out over a city from a rooftop, trying to take in each and every vignette and combine them into one story. He lays out memories, emotions and pieces of everyday life with unruly brush strokes - more like acollection of free associations than an intentionally polished message. His painting mimics his attitude;raw, real and unrefined.

I have been painting the inside of my soul and showing it to the world for some time now.About 14 years i guess. I have made a living strictly from the sales of my work for 2 years. I currently have a show running in Harrisburg ,Pennsylvania. @ the Meatlocker Gallery. In March ill be doing the D gallery of San Diego California..

When i paint i see things different than when I'm not painting . I'm taking raw human emotions head on at about a million miles an hour. Shit i never even knew about or thought about in my life comes out. I see myself in a giant wheat field with a catchers mitt trying to ketch this swirl of words and emotions thats falling from the heavens. Some belong to me and some dont. but i still feel everyone of them i touch on .
I'm like a computer. The canvas is some sort of primitive floppy disk. I stand before it and download a million gigs of life ,heartache, turmoil, and joy onto it with in only a few seconds.

I have an exhibition space at 10 Jay Street on top
of an indie film maker office. I might be neoexpressionist.
