If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Installation, Sculpture
I am...
young enough not to know what to do with my life but old enough to worry about it.
About my artwork
i work to transform the rooms in which i make installations into domestic spaces that can be at once reminiscent of the recent past and strangely familiar, but that play with the viewers preconceptions about scale and the physicality of real space.
Artists I like
Anne Hamilton, Louise Bourgeois, Spencer Finch, Barbara Bloom, Vermeer...
Interests
The control of small spaces, such as Dolls houses, parcels and envelopes, and how the imagination can blow things out of proportion.
Novels that are good character studies, such as the work of Ford Maddox Ford or Jane Austen. Books that smell old, but read like new.
Sports like Golf and Skiing that are enacted in the great outdoors, but where the player is insulated from the from the surrounding natural beauty and its dangers. a clash between culture and nature.
making silly wee bits of music.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
the last thing i saw that really stayed with me was the Cathy Wilkes installation at the Modern Institute in Glasgow. i found it really intriguing in the way she used the objects collected together to become suggestive of something that acknowledged the passing of time yet didn't adhere to its constraints.
