I am...
Independent artist, curator, lecturer, freelance writer and editor
Co-founder, with artist Joan Giroux, of Compassionate Action Enterprises (CAE), an artist collaborative, promoting art and interaction geared toward ecofeminism, social, political and cultural activism- interdisciplinary activity that acts as a catalyst for positive change.
About my artwork
Absence, longing, desire - the fragility of the human condition - are themes that appear again and again in my work like insistent recurrent dreams. I am interested in liminal space and threshold experiences as they represent places of potential and states of altered consciousness. My work is site-specific, intimate and often ephemeral. I search for the sacred in the ordinary and approach the process of making art as a way to renew meaning or to allow meaning, already present, to emerge. It is often my practice to create opportunities for viewers to become part of the artwork. I draw participants into relationship through gentle gestures which create opportunities for connection.
Artists I like
Joseph Beuys, Rebecca Horn, Marina Abramovic, Jana Sterbak, Ana Mendieta, Maya Deren, Sophia Isajiw, Kate- Rose Carrick, Tei Kobayashi, Piotr Zamojsky, Yutaka Kobayashi, Sky Bergman, Joseph Cornell, Robert Smithson,Bill Viola, Ann Hamilton, Agnes Denes, June Leaf, Joan Giroux, Dana Freeman, Margie Neuhaus, Cy Twombly, Hamish Fulton, Maria Velasco, Nancy Spero, Martin Puryear and many more...
