If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Digital, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Video
I am...
the daughter of CF Keck, a California Scene painter. A former teacher and language development resource teacher in the school library, I write books for elementary educators. I must, however, as an undeniable calling, create visual art and poetry. I discovered this the hard way in midlife.
About my artwork
My art has passed through many phases, and I tend to work in series. There are two strands to my work--figurative and abstract. Both have been important to me from the beginning. I also love photography. My dad taught me to develop and print when I was about 10 or 11. Currently, I am having fun with Photoshop. I am layering photos and artwork and blending them. When I was attending drawing groups, I did a series that my husband calls "The Orgy Series" (a joke). I included all of the poses from a session on one large canvas. I drew in charcoal, then fixed it and added acrylic glazes at home. Now, in Photoshop, I am layering many of the shots I take in an outdoor session (I live in western Colorado and enjoy landscapes.) The resulting digital images contain the essence of the whole experience. So much fun!!! I am also taking images from past original videotapes and layering them in the same way.
Artists I like
Klee, Vermeer, Picasso, Titian, Kandinsky, Jawlensky, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Kline, Diebenkorn, Celmins (a former teacher--met my husband of 41 years in her class), Corot (reds!), Ingres (drawings), Seurat (drawings), Bresson, Minor White, Irwin, Rembrandt, Degas, Moore,
Interests
Painting, photography, poetry, essays, history, astronomy, geology, walking, nature, psychology, technology (seat of the pants),
