About my artwork
Ever since I was a little girl it has been vitally important to me to share experiences through art with the "viewing" audience.
Artists I like
Lucien Freud, Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, Jenny Saville, Edouard Manet, Franz Kline, ....
Interests
learning new things, stretching, reaching.
recently we moved to Seattle Washington where I took a studio in the prestigious Tashiro Kaplan Building. I participate in monthly open studio art walk downtown along with hundreds of other galleries and artists. I receive about 300 visitors every month. Through this I am learning how to interact with people around the art, and talk to an audience.
I'm also making a new attempt to read Deleuze's Francis Bacon the Art of the Sensational.
What exhibitions are good at the moment?
I was very impressed with an exhibition at the Greg Kucera Gallery here in Seattle.

Hi Kate, I am a sculptor and really liked your idea of painting all of those local people. The only trouble is clay is not a cheap medium. I live in a medium sized village in North Wales, it's very pretty but very divided by language and race, however many people are receptive to a strong community spirit and artistic enterprise. I just love the idea of getting the good folk of Bethesda into a series of clay sketches and encouraging them to try the clay sketching themselves if they are so inclined. Your way of entering your local community with a bang just got my mind going. Well met :) xstina

Oh dear. I am afraid, I owe you an apology, Kate - I didn't expect anyone might actually read it...
Anyway, you are right regarding the conflict of logical and theological.
Years ago, I worked for a while in an architectural firm designing what might be called "an organic environment" (Alberts & Van Huut, Amsterdam). Deeply antroposophic approach based on theories of Rudolf Steiner, i.e. spiritual philosophy. So, that stuff in my blog (about the vital energies) - it's all true, you know - any reasonably sensitive person would immediately "feel" the difference between the two types of environments. In fact, I decided to work with them only because I have been shocked by the first experience when visiting one of their great projects - KPMG Bank in Amstelveen.
In short, there is, of course, no logic there, - but I should have explained better.

On a personal level, I would like to note I feel very pleased you mentioned positively a few of my pictures.
All those are the most recent ones, so it's my current frame of mind, if you like.
One more thing. There is a line in your comment in the discussion thread "finishing a painting", that inspired me to start a new discussion, which seems to me even more interesting now: "how does one start a painting". When the time comes, I should remember to credit you.

Hello Kate.
Thanks to your comment in the discussion I 'd started, I have now come across your work. I have to say it's really amazing. I find your paintings very powerful, very painterly, often very disturbing, and always highly original. With my best wishes,
Valery

Thank you for your expalnation for why you choose certain subject matter. Reardless of whether I like or dislike some of it, you always manage to send the paint in coordinated directions and also include natural flamboyancy. Again= contrasting visuals and methods. Fabulous
I enjoy totally abstracting my techniques. To do this I think I allow my sub conscious to take over so that any knowledge of subject and method I have, appear as ethereal impressions and layers which usually represent: land, water, sky, figures; just as in my pictorial work. I have a different frame of mind for working in different styles.
Thank you again for your dialogue concerning the gore. I think I understand your jocular approach to a serious subject. I like your painting of a person lying face down, peering. The lines which project from the figure are soothing and graceful. Very good work. The guy with the large feet in the foreground is cool too. A wildly coloured picture

I enjoy varying my methods and I work in styles ranging from precise painting
to fast, flowing abstract application of paint including printwork with elements of chance. You seem to be able to fuse the various methods you employ, into singular compositions. I am not so fond of the pictures portraying gore and death but the peaceful characters with paint protruding from them are a brilliant manifestation of abstraction because they take in life and atmosphere and you use the flow of colours to represent these intangible parts of existence.

I like the combination of intricate painting and brashness which constructs the fluid lines progressing from your figures. I also like the sliding nature of your paintwork. Brilliant merging of colours
