I am...

I am a visual artist and designer maker and have been creating mixed media works of art and designing screen-printed homewares since graduating with a BA (Hons) in Textiles and Surface Decoration and an MA in Art & Design from Grays School of Art in 1999. I have won a number of awards, most recently The Russell Trust Prize in 2008, for my work as a Professional Member of Visual Arts Scotland in their annual exhibition; The RSA Ottillie Helen Wallace Prize in 2007, for my work in the Royal Scottish Academy’s annual exhibition; and I was voted one of ‘The brightest and best Future 500 rising stars’ by Courvoisier in the Observer in 2007. One of my designs, a ceramic chandelier, created as part of a three person collective, ‘A Wee Bit of Light Relief’, is now featuring in craftscotland’s ‘The C Word’ advertisement, which is showing in international cinemas and on STV.

About my artwork

I ponder the relationship people have with the objects they put in their home and aim to tell a story about the inhabitant’s life by playfully transforming these items into mixed media sculptures and screen-prints. My insatiable passion for the home, and household objects has also inspired me to open an online shop called 'baffie'. My aim is to cherry pick high quality yet affordable, comfy slippers and nightwear for lounging about the house in, and hand crafted, functional and funky homewares and greeting cards, all from independent designer/makers, small businesses and fair trade co-operatives.
