I am...
Interested in interpreting complex ideas through the language of sculpture and painting.
About my artwork
I am currently pursuing two bodies of work. First is the study of psychological tension inherent in the human condition as it transitions from the sub-conscious into the conscious mind. From the conscious mind this tension can now be translated into the language of sculpture through the use of material, space and form.
The second body of work investigates this same tension in the sub-conscience mind where it conceals itself in the form of layered voids created by traumatic events.
These Voids are confronted in this body of work through a process similar to how they were formed; slowly over time, layer by layer. Void create – Void fill. This seems like a redundant exercise at first, but upon further investigation it presents an elegant solution to the conflicting elements of the problem; the creation of a physical Void to fill a psychological Void.
Artists I like
Lee Bontecou, Morio Shinoda, Clifford Still, Vance Kirkland, Tara Donavan, Eva Hesse, George Rickey, Naum Gabo, Arnaldo Pomodaro, Morten Andersen, Matt Hope... so many more!

Hi Joseph, I found your work very exciting, especially the tension/suspension peices. They exude a quiet strength balanced within their own elegance, thankyou for the experience!
