Javier Albar (1969) discovers the Xylography in Brita Prinz Gallery workshops, as technique that allows him to do the transition of the architectural design to the graphic art, in the xylography he finds him to liberate of expression that he needed in this moment, this transition makes him work the wood of a different way from the habitual one, designing and drawing the images in transparen paper like they were planes of architecture that then he goes on to the wood, which makes him to experiment the xylography from another different point of view to obtain differents results.
Albar uses as base of his graphical work the xylography, using the okumen wood as principal support which precisinon cuts pure sections with cleavers linear and clean profiles, superputting pieces in his compositions and playing with the transparencies of the inks, establishes areas defined by the drawing creating compositives puzzles in a constant search of lightness, espaciality and a game of reading of his work. He realizes a constant evolutionary experimentation of his works and he begin to incorporate new techniques combined with the Xylography, like the lithography and in his more recent works the matrix of a type of plastic named Arraglás, playing with new resources as the sanded circles, and the atmospheric grated background.
The utilization of black ink and the white of the paper, together with the rotundity of the linear cut of the wood, produces in his work a great rotundity and strength. The author plays with the superputting of the white ink and its transparencies on the black to create different tonalities and shades of gray bluish that sometimes with cocktails with small touches of color that are alone or that are degraded, orange, red, green and yellow are sorrounded or fitted inside the black ink without touching itself, white lines of the paper play, connect, delimit and draw a magic space and hypnotic.
Javier Albar's poetics refer to an organic, geometric and technological abstraction which are fuse each other, across a synthetic and formalist version. In his work is detect a whole world of references whit major or minor discretion such as: the architecture desconstruction, the technology, the structural engineering, the futurist cinema, the urban maps, the air maps of the cities lights at night, natural elements such as: the water, the snow, the stones, the plants. The osseous structures of animal and fossil skeletons of dinosaurs, are mixed in imbalance compositions and full of tensions and linear secret connections. He used the circle as transition between the organic thing and the geometric thing, geometry that not adjust to no mathematical calculation but to an intuitive and emotional use of the artist.
