I am...

My name is Emanuel de Sousa, I'm 31 years old. I come from a small
island in the midle of the Atlantic, Porto Santo, where the artistic
manifestations are only arts and crafts, where the visual influences
from other artists are not available and where our imagination has a
bigger role than you think.
I took the Fine arts course after planing my whole academic future
around biology... everything changed because of an opinion of a dear
friend of mine, who incouraged me to take the Art course at the
university on Madeira...
I took the course in painting, first in the University of Madeira,
then on the main land, Portugal, in the city of Oporto, in the north,
where i developed all my painting and drawing techiques

About my artwork

I
had the need to disturb the visual concept that we have while Society
that feeds it self from the fashion magazines and diet products, wich
are not real, not in our comon universe of the "real" human
being/figure.
I look for the sensual in the real. And sensual for me is translated
in strong textures, and pale colours, and skin, fat, postures and
atitudes, raw and true, as most of us are.
