I am...
I am struck by Elisabeth Eberle’s observational skills, used in producing her Amöbe, Metamorphose and Athena Synthetica "prints". Having trained as a scientist, Eberle learned to draw from botanical and tissue specimens, requiring a high level of attention to detail. With such a strict aesthetic background in mind, what registers as most significant in the "prints" are Eberle’s departures from objective representation. By this, I mean not only her creation of hybrid species through adding and subtraction of parts; or her game-playing with notions of time by displaying seasonal variations out of order; but, in particular, her use of the subjective mark.
For example, while the work Metamorphose 4b, like the other "prints", appears to have been draughted with the aid of a computer that maps form with contours, the line itself seems pressure-sensitive to the artist’s hand. Like standing in front of an abstract painting, or a carefully made drawing, it is a pleasure to get caught up in the thinning and thickening of the ink, the overworked edges, and the central areas of density. It is at this point of emotional investment that I truly notice that this could not be a drawing from life. Its strange, worrying status in between the natural and the artificial becomes clear, and the artist’s concerns over the same blurring of boundaries in everyday life become my concerns.

About my artwork
I am interested in man-made and natural objects encountered in everyday life, analysing and reworking them until their original condition - natural, artificial or digital - is brought into question. By dismantling conventional categories that were established by the baroque Wunderkammer, or “Cabinet of Curiosities,” the divide between the organic and the synthetic collapses.
For a long time, I have been dealing with the dialectic between the natural and the artificial. I am interested in the issues that are raised when apparently ‘natural’ objects are synthetically constructed, blurring the boundaries between these two, culturally determined labels. Other levels of our lives are also involved in this global process. My work as an artist calls upon my scientific training, during which I became aware of the importance of drawing in understanding histological and botanic structures. Currently, I am focused on making digital works, however these are also fundamental to furthering my practice in painting, collage, print, sculpture and wide-format ‘plotter’ drawing. I am usually either editing found objects and images, or trying to produce similar things from scratch, aiming to present new perspectives in this field.

"SIE HIER?"

Wusst ich garnich. Ja, ich denke auch, das ist sicher eine gute Plattform für dich. Habe es dir nie vorgeschlagen, weil, wie du sicher schon gesehen, es ist eine ziemlich - sagen wir mal - gemischte Gesellschaft, find ich. Also schon ziemlich viel ...
