I am...
an artist working at Sculpture Shed, Spike Island Studios, Bristol but my practice involves multi-media and installation work. I have exhibited nationally and internationally and at have recently completed a practice-based PhD in sculpture. My present project involves a collaboration with a young Nigerian artist who lives in Nigeria and we plan to investigate Mbari shrines together in order to make artwork.
About my artwork
My art practice overlaps art and anthropology and l often use anthropological sources as reference for a body of work. My last series of work involved making a series of Wall and Floor pieces along with installation work and digital prints. This work arose as a result of investigating commemorative grave posts belonging to the Giriama tribe of Kenya. As well as artwork l publish articles and lecture to support my practice.
Artists I like
Arte Povera group of artists particularly, El Anatsui and contemporary African art from West Africa, Anselm Kiefer, Sonia Boyce, Gordon Matta-Clark, Rebecca Warren, to name but a very few.
Interests
Travel, bee-keeping, and just the whole art thing!
