- In my current work I make use of broadsheet newspapers as a material to work from. An accessible mass-produced and cheap material, I appropriate and subvert the content of the news through drawing, erasing and sewing. In particular, the Daily Telegraph has been the basis for much work. It is a conservative newspaper with a continual old-style format that lends itself to manipulation because it contains a repetitive structure. I work with this reliable structure and pick out words or sentences that can be easily over- looked in the mass of black print. Whilst working in to the newspaper I look for coincidences and patterns within language altering how the reader/viewer interprets the information that is already present. By tapping in to language hidden within this authoritive newspaper I can twist the ‘informative’ into something more ambiguous and poetic-this allows the viewer to rethink previous conceptions about the object and reconsider their engagement with it. My work has little to do with archiving recent events; it is about re-presenting information that already exists.
