running a relatively new artspace in Melbourne (Immersion Therapy) whose program focuses on cross cultural and multicultural themes. There is an emphasis on artists whose connections are to Asia, the Middle East and Latin America, however this brief is more a guide than a rule.

There are a lot of approaches to adopt when you run an arts space.

Curatorially, the decisions you make about what makes it through the door and subsequently what makes it 'onto the walls' is going to have a huge hand in determining how people perceive your space either as visitors or collaborators.

Earth Hour at Immersion Therapy

Its a well documented fact that for all the interest and diversion an art space can create, galleries are amongst the worst environmental offenders. Let's face it...controlling temperatures, humidity and lighting to benefit, showcase and preserve art work takes a lot of energy.

Install time!

It's installation time... that time that I sometimes dread but mostly get all excited about.



I remember the first installation we did at the space last year, and how horrified I was that those beautiful, pristine white walls that had taken me days to sand and paint were about to scarred and altered. But then when the first works went on the wall, my gosh, could not imagine the space being without work on it again.
