I've never been a fan of Mapplethorpe really - I like some of his images. I've only listed some of the artists that get my juices flowing, there are many more ;-)

If you're an artist, what kind of art do you make?
Digital
I am...
the irregular guy next door - a graphic designer and digital artist. I have contributed to 2 group exhibitions here in London. Designed for Bjork
About my artwork
I am fascinated by how we as men portray ourselves on dating sites, how we wish to be perceived, what extremes we go to, our egos, narcissism, the stories we tell (and lies), the superficiality - the 'choose me, I'm Mr Right (or Mr Rightnow)'. My portraits and figurative work look at these subjects. I call the group of work 'Mercurial Men' as the subjects look shiny, reflective, metallic (often corroded) but also fluid and there seems to be something bubbling below the surface, changes taking place. Also that mercury is toxic. Gods or monsters?
Artists I like
Marlene Dumas, Francis Bacon, Jenny Saville, Egon Schiele, Jeff Koons, Rembrandt, Luc Tuymans, Katharina Fritsch, Andy Warhol, Glen Brown, Caravaggio, Jan Van Eyck, Cornelia Parker, Rachael Whiteread, Walter Sickert, Anish Kapoor, Eberhard Havekost, George Shaw, Barbara Hepworth, Andreas Gursky, Gary Hume, Christian Boltanski...

Great work Craig I would also like to see some of the images without the patination as the subject matter is worth exploring without the surface manipulation? How come you do not list Robert Mapplethorpe in your artist list above.

glenn brown popped straight into my head when i saw your work... its the combination of the black backgrounds and the contours of colours... how do you create your work?

I can relate to the starving artist bit - i just keep submitting work and exhibiting when i can - the arts council art news section lists submission opportunities amongst the course/exhibition listings otherwise do you have an empty shop slack space co-operative near you as they may accept your work. I found your statement interesting to read as a precursor to looking at your work. Fabulous work; I would love to see them in an exhibition - the urge is to touch some of them, some evoke revullsion, darkness, sadness, cruelty...... and yet there is an incredible beauty. Sioux

The Problem of Health Care

At last! A layman's guide to the Government's healthcare reforms, explaining them in terms so simple they might have been written by a complete idiot, and charting the development of health care from the good old days to the present and beyond - with hilarious results! In fabulous stickman-o-vision, with bits of colour.…See More
