The 4 Elements of Superstroke

The 4 Elements of Superstroke

As most people who has been following the Superstroke Art Movement knows is that the manifesto written for Superstroke is as follows:

1. Paintings should be executed using expressive even violent brushstrokes on at least some part of the picture.

2. Should a photograph be used for a figurative painting, the objection should not be Photorealism, but Expressionism.

3. If mediums such as pen, pencil, etc are used,… Continue

Picassofication in Supertroke

Conrad Bo: Picassofication in Superstroke

Whenever I paint a stylized figure I usually use the term Picassofication. On numerous occations I have written about this concept. Picassofication is a term I have used even when I was still signing my art as Conrad Botha, and using the concept of Generalism to define my art.

Picassofication is self explanatory. It refers to paintings that are done using work from one of the greatest artist that ever lived, Pablo Picasso. The amount of… Continue

Dumile Feni

I again became interested in the work of Dumile Feni when an article about his art was publish in the same magazine that did a story about me.

I am a great fan of Dumile Feni's work and what more can be written about this great South African artist that has not been already said. I hope to publish a more in depth article, analyzing individual pictures of him, and provide some commentary.

For now the following brief history was published… Continue

General background to my art

My paintings are mostly executed in a style, concept or movement called Superstroke. Superstroke as an idea or movement was conceived by me as a reaction to the impact that Superflat has on contemporary art today. Superflat is one of the few art movements started in the last decade, which is taking contemporary art forward. To understand Superstroke, the viewer must firstly be familiar with Picasso and Braque (Cubism, Picasso Style), Miro… Continue

Very provocative work and you've established an interesting and rigorous conceptual basis for it. Although I'm not much of one for manifestos and taking part in movements, I think what you're doing is fascinating!

Thanks for the comment, I saw your works and it's obvious that we think the same way .. your work analyzes popular things, but you do not give up the struggle with matter and your feelings ...

Dear Conrad,
Liked your work, very emotional. I'm too cowgirl to understand alot about Picasso. But the waterbuffalo was my favorite.
