an artist born in Kurdistan/Iraq, currently living in UK. I am a painter and a digital photographer. Using video, sound, drawing and objects ...
My work has directly developed from the ideas of “ID card” origin and falsification, explored in my studio practice. It is shocking to see how codes and numbers have classified and shaped us under a system that is almost invisible to us. I am trying to question the effects and the outcomes of the categorization in the system we live in. My main ideas of working on the theme of identity have been developed and grown for numbers of years, since I was in the nonsense battles for being recognised by the system in the UK.
About my artwork
To me art is a way to raise questions about what we are and how we place ourselves in the world. It is a way to be in touch with our responses to life. I am trying to create something that looks vibrant. It is my way of speaking and allows the viewers to translate, decode and change it to their own languages.
How do we provide evidence of who we are?
I started working with my own ID pictures. After I was using my camera as a scanner, to document some of my asylum papers urgently to be sent through e-mail to my solicitor in London. Therefore I was trying to be as quick and clear as possible. Accidentally one of the pictures turned out blurred, and I found it as a perfect metaphor for my way of living in UK after all that time. Through my work, I would like the viewers to get a glimpse of my experience.

your work and your exploration of identity comes from a place that's deepset inside all of us, but most of us take our sense of identity for granted, or aren't challenged like you have been...your experience of being forced to establish and maintain your identity within a desperate system has informed your sensitive work with an edge and a beauty that comes only from being tested and shaped by a life-altering challenge...i especially love your b&w photos and the images of paper being pressed and rubbed over the faces on small sculptures, those really reached me...

Hi there
thanks for getting in touch. The only other info I have at the moment is ....
The flat is my own flat so it will mostly be in the hall which is very long, but some other artworks will be sited in other parts of the flat if appropriate. It might end up being a series of shows, depending on the response I get. I will be curating it from the call out for works and from some invited artists. I am hoping to use my networking links to make it have quite a national feel to it as opposed to the 'circle of friends'/ local feel of other flat shows..
I'm afraid it's all going to be done on a shoe string and i can't afford to pay for transport so I am looking for works that are easy to send by post. There's no actual theme but i am looking for works that suit a domestic situation..Also works that work on a domestic scale i.e not large heavy sculptures!!!
Don't know if that helps at all
Best wishes
Janie.

many fine work on your page, I like them.
In some way I find a connection to mine own work even thougt mine are very different to yours, funny :)
