I am...
I am Ottawa-born, and have lived and worked in Toronto for nearly 25 years. I have been making art personally and professionally for nearly 40 years, and studied PhotoVision at the Ontario College of Art during the 1980s. My works of photography, painting, and video have been exhibited in Toronto and New York in solo and group shows numerous times over the past 15 years, and have been included in several noted collections.
About my artwork
My practice focuses on investigating the nature and form of sense-and meaning-making in contemporary culture, with an emphasis on the role of human/media interaction in shaping the experience of interface. I work in various media including digital, video, film, photography, graphite, acrylics, and mixed media.
hi there. It seems over the last 2 months I have got quite a bit of positive feedback on my paintings here on artreview. However I feel that people such as yourself deserve more of the credit. I remember some of the ideas you presented about how the human mind 'sees' the medium (such as a radio or a computer screen) and pulls apart all the signals to turn it into information. How we interpret meaning.
Pretty much everything I have put up here is based on a set of collages I made in Toronto using cardboard and photographs between 1994 to 2005. As I was making those collages the ideas that yourself and Gera Dyllon were presenting were affecting my way of thinking. Whatever meaning people are drawing from my stuff goes directly back to a group of about 10 people in the early 90s of whom you are one!
As a result I would love for people to see more of your stuff than mine! If you could put up more of your photos and also articles about your work based around (loosely) 'the medium is the message' I think it would put my stuff into more perspective, as my stuff is quite brutal.
Hi Arnold,
after meeting so many strangers up here, it is nice to see an old friend! Hope you and Gera are both well. Really look forward to see your art up here as your production of the Ulysses video has become quite popular. Ok best from Luke :)
