Conceptual, Drawing, Video
I am...

Born in 75 in the Swiss Jura mountains.

Dedicated to conceptual interdisciplinary projects from writing to direction: a methodology that is consisted of personal perspectives through drawings, installations, videos, texts, or objects interspersed with historical, social, and artistic practices enriched by collaborations.

Studied in Switzerland until 1996 and then began art studies in Germany from 1996 until 1998, before joining Fine Art in Video and Film (4D) at Central St. Martins College in London as a student of inspiring artists such as Graham Ellard (also course director), Hew Locke, Uriel Orlow, James Swinson, and witnessed an enlightening lecture given by AGNES VARDA at Tate Modern London.

A year after studying, in 2004, the video project TEMPOGRAPHY, written and directed with Magnus Aronson from Sweden, is exhibited on multiple screens in some 200 double-deck buses simultaneously in LONDON and Birmingham over two months 24/7. The project was screened in STOCKHOLM in 2006, at the cultural institution ZITA and at the GALLERI KLEERUP. Lived in London (Brixton-Herne Hill) until 2006.

In 2006, thanks to funding and support obtained from institutions and foundations, return in Switzerland for the project ‘à ses parents – VARIATIONS AUTOUR DE LE CORBUSIER’ self-written and self-directed. This project was articulated upon notions of voluntary exile, offering, counter-offering, patrimony, family relationship, and architecture. An interdisciplinary project enriched by multiple points of views, such as its contemporary art exhibition in the 'Maison blanche' - Le Corbusier, one conference, an inspired film season, and a unique concert in the 'Villa Turque' - Le Corbusier by one family (Pavel, mother Tatiana and father Michel Gershwin related to the famous composer). This project was supported by the collaborations and participations of swiss scientists, young international artists, the collective hobbypopMuseum, and contemporary art figures such as LOUISE BOURGEOIS and FELICE VARINI.

In 2007, this project was edited in a book and published. The book was later collected by the Harvard University Library.

In 2008, the project 'Tempography' is exhibited at GALLERY FACTORY, in SEOUL - KOREA, alongside public screenings and its first symposium.

In 2009, started the blue sacred mark project (bluesacredmarkproject.net) with its video work 'Introspecting my probable Mongol origin as a Swiss'. A project initiated with the NAM JUNE PAIK ART CENTER (SOUTH KOREA) and introduced during the exhibition NOW JUMP.

TEMPOGRAPHY project will be exhibited in HANOI-VIETNAM at the GOETHE-INSTITUT in 2009.

Among noteworthy encounters, interdisciplinary artists:
ANDY WARHOL, 1986, in New York, six months before his sudden death. Photographed together.
MAX BILL, 1990, in Switzerland (artist, architect, painter, sculptor, designer).

(...) Over years of studies his work comprises hundreds of drawings and close to one thousand pages of personal writing and research organized into logbooks. Developing works that escape absolute completion is crucial to the methodology and research practice Anthony Bannwart / Hontoban has been pursuing: one that intersperses perspectives of the personal and the other into historical and social artistic practice.
