Thank you for the support, I definitely can see an aesthetic relationship between our work. My paintings on panel and paper are derived from a Tribal influence and then that is cross pollinated with a severe influence of Suerat and Signac, the Pointillists Post Impressionists and Pop.
Hi I've just downloaded some of my own dot paintings on my page - not as neat as yours!
The following are some books that have inspired me to do these works and others pieces:
The Gift by Lewis Hyde (1979) USA Random House. He says gifts are anarchistic property; perishable like sandpaintings or leaf sculptures. They are not commodities that alienate us from ourselves and others.
Millennium by David Maybury-Lewis, Viking Books (1992) A good book about tribal wisdom and about SONGLINES and DREAMTIME.
Outsider Art by Colin Rhodes; T&H (2000)
Makes good connection with tribal art etc.
Aboriginal Art by Wally Caruna T&H (1993)
Very good illustrations of their art.
Who cares whether we are or are not "fine artists" we are artistic people!
Thanks Adrian for your reply/comments. I think that living really with the land, our "natural" environment and not having to be suffocated by street furniture, tarmac, etc makes us more whole people and not automatons, indifferent city/town dwellers full of angst and fear and all the other hangups we construct or socially constructed by economic systems not of our own individual making. I guess its best look at the realsoul artists who have always known this and shown it in their works. If we look at alot of (post) modern art its full of the above personal, social group and nationalistic hangups. Perhaps good therapy? But I think that the realsoul art that reveals the hidden is the art of the land and our unique (but sadly lost) relationship to it. I will post you some literature that might be of interest in reading about this subject. I can't be bothered Blogging! Salut
I love aboriginal art and you've captured its essence well. I've done a lot of "dot" painting and find the process reveals the LAND, and that trace the SONGLINES and the immense power and energy. It really is a satisfying technique to be artistically involved in. I think that the Australian Aboriginal artworks are some of the most beautiful art works in the world and have very little to do with money but is an important element of a GIFT culture we materialistic westerners have lost. Long may GIFTS reign!
At last! A layman's guide to the Government's healthcare reforms, explaining them in terms so simple they might have been written by a complete idiot, and charting the development of health care from the good old days to the present and beyond - with hilarious results! In fabulous stickman-o-vision, with bits of colour.…See More
