Wow Kika! thanks for this! Being part of this festival is fabulous! And so great to hear from Kai. In less than a year ECVP is a global phenomenon!

Thanks to all for creating such an exciting project. No question, it's due to the amazing collaborative efforts of dedicated and talented artists! Can't wait to see #7, 8, 9 - suspense is killing me:)

hey people!

I just wanted to let you know that we had our screening yesterday at Alucine Toronto Latino Media Festival, and after a Q&A with me, Josh and Zachary. It was wonderful!

We showed Corpses1-3, and explained the project. We also showed 3 of the brothers videos, plus one video of mine and a video by Anders. People were very interested and I think we may get some more opportunities thanks to this. There was this American curator on the audience, she was interested, let's see what happens.

The other corpses will be shown in looping from today on.

Anyway, that's it, we will have pictures soon!

Congratulations everyone,

Kika

hey everyone,

I want to tell you a little more about our participation in the Alucine festival. We had a screening last Friday with: Windmaker (my video), Anders video, 3 videos by the Sandler brothers, and the corpses#1-3. After the screening we had a Q&A, me and the brothers with the audience. It was very cool. There were a couple of curators (one from NY, the other from Toronto) in the audience and I gave them our DVDs. They really liked the project.

The other corpses were supposed to be shown in looping during the festival, on another room at the National Film Board, but the festival organizers yesterday confirmed that they had some technical problems with the projector and this won't happen.

However, these are not bad news... First because they decided to extend my artist talk tomorrow, so I can show a few other corpses. I will probably show the corpses 4-6, since the new ones are not completed. And I will talk in detail about the project and also the side projects that were born, like the Exquisite Dialogues or the Vitruvian Woman.

And second, the festival director just told me that he will get in touch with other curators here in Toronto and try to arrange a complete screening/exhibition of the corpses. he really believes in our project. By the way, he is an artist himself and it's likely that he and the other festival curator will join us for the next year series.

We also met some wonderful latino artists here, as well as a few canadians, who are very interested in joining us. So our group will grow and get more diversified!

beijos,

Kika

Hi Kika, that sounds wonderful. Hope you are enjoying yourself there despite the cold weather? Thanks for being such a fabulous emissary for us all! Best to the boys and take care! xoxoxo

Hi Ronee,
I am enjoying myself a lot! The cold is not that horrible. I just wish it could snow more! I'm not used to see snow and I would love to have more.
We have parties almost every night! Today I actually didn't leave the hotel because I had too many things to do. Besides, I woke up at 1pm... I was really tired!

Hey friends,

I just left Toronto. I'm now in Halifax. I will (in the near future) make a proper report of the great days we spent in Toronto, at the Alucine Toronto Latino Media Festival. It was amazing, the response to our project very good. The curators of the festival want to be part of our project, by the way! So you see, they really enjoyed it. A few other great artists are also interested in joining us.

I tried to make a documentary - following the trend initiated by our dear Jan Kather - but everything was too intense and our schedule pretty tight. I didn't sleep for more than 5 hours all this time! But also, I just couldn't find a moment in which people were relaxed to talk; either we were at the screenings, or we were partying! hahaha, I swear, it's wild. Zach and Josh can confirm this.

I think I already said I prepared a powerpoint presentation and had a special talk last Thursday. It was very nice, and I even can send the file to whoever is interested in adapting and showing to students or any other audience. I think it helped explaining the project in details, because a lot of people were curious about how we got together, how we are showing the videos and stuff like that.

During this presentation, I also showed Corpse#6 and #8. I didn't have time to show more. But it was enough to show our evolution. Everyone thought that we are getting better and better!!! The new corpses are really good, very "tight" as Zach pointed out.

Some of the audience's commentaries were very interesting. Gabriela Golder, who is a fantastic Argentinian videoartist (and was member of the jury) enjoyed the project a lot, but asked if we had plans to make each piece a little longer. I told her we are considering making them 2 minutes each for the next volume, and a lot of people in the audience agreed that this would be a great idea. They like that it's not too long, that it's always the same length, but they felt that some pieces "asked" for more time of development. I totally agree with that, I think that watching all of them, I have the feeling that this next step will make the project flow even better. I also threw at them the idea of making the corpses with themes and editing as a one feature film, and they all seemed to like this.

Another thing is: I want to start all 9 pieces of volume 2 at the same time, in January. I think we can handle it, and things will move much faster. If we think about 9 videos with 5 pieces of 2 minutes each, that would be an approximately 90 minutes feature film, with 45 artists. I will soon start a thread to discuss this new volume, so we can start deciding the themes and the artists who will be involved.

My idea is: every past participating is invited to participate again. And I will "curate" new participants. But all of you can suggest names, of course. Please think of people you would like to invite and let me know. I still would love to have interesting artists from Asia and Australia. We don't have many latinos either, but I solved this already with the people from Alucine (we will have 1 or 2 Argentinian, 1 Colombian and 1 from Venezuela).

Well, that's it for now. I wanna hear from you, your ideas.

xoxoKika

PS: one thing I forgot to mention - the Sandler's got the 3rd prize at the festival, for one of their videos!!! Isn't it WONDERFUL? I'm so proud of them and very happy for having introduced them to the festival.
