I have been looking bit by bit through her things for that series. I believe I remember finding the slide carousel that she used to present them. (She did the series when she was getting her Master's Degree back in 1978 or 1979). I have boxes and boxes of her journals, books, poetry. It's sort of the "needle in a haystack" Still, I will try to find it. I was in junior high at the time and I believe it had a profound affect on my decision to pursue art.

Hi Marijim,
Thankyou for joining, and for your story.
Would you be able to post any photos of your Mum's work on here?
I would be very interested to see them. She sounds like a wonderful lady.
Kind regards,
Ari

I just really like the idea. It's an inspiration to see what kind of fool I would come up with. My mother (deceased) was an artist, poet, musician who struggled with manic depression, but still managed to get her doctorate in literature. She did a whole series of "fool" paintings representing the person struggling with mental illness and how society views them no matter how productive or talented or intelligent they are.

I got my fool mainly from the tarot, and I was so proud, without realising that the fool is not an end to development, but more like a sign-post to progression and greater realisation of what he has in his bag.
I have done a painting of "The Fool" and it is a motif I am familiar with from Tarot to Shakespeare.

Who or what is the Fool? The Fool is the Jester, the Harlequin, the Clown and the Joker. And perhaps is the Magician, and perhaps is Death. The Fool's disguise is not limited to any character. But what is it that the Fool represents, or is that merely begging a subjective response? The Fool transcends cultural boundaries and encompasses tragedy, humour, fearlessness, wit, death (but not dying) and arrives always on time.
What, and who, is the Fool?
