Protest Art
March,April & May
Protest art aims at engaging the attention of the public and provoke a reaction. Ever since art became the vehicle of individual self-expression it has been there throughout the history…
In myriad ways, Sudip Roy’s Time Past is Present straddles mediums, moods and materials. The vast range of techniques and the idea of perception worked on perfecting his representation of figures and faces, makes this show by Sudip Roy one to savour long after. The show includes washes, watercolours, sketches, charcoals,…
Sekhar Roy is not concerned with the problem between relations in the painted space rather the active and neutral elements amidst opposite markers. His idea in his present series is to define an opposition and control the tension in his painting through space, matrices, images and colour to bring out a crisis, established…
After some of the stunned amazement had worn off and I could manage to unlock my hands from being claws gripping into my kitchen cupboards, my knees had stopped shaking with fright, and the streams of tears had slowed, practical solutions had to be thought about to what we were dealing with, how to cope, manage... organise.... research had to be done, information had to be found, comparisons had to be made to other similar bodies, an artist of comparable capacity to find a level. We had to…
Why would an artist take the pain of painting if he can click a shot and create art. The gap that remains between photography and photorealism is that, photography binds us to capture what we see before us. It only allows the liberty in changing the angles, hence the points of view. But art gives one, the liberty to shape the vision, shown by nature to ones own.
The clear articulation of…

Hugo Marín and Alexander Sutulov, two artists coming from the south of the South, vertical column of America: Chile, rectilinear province, strait and lance-linear, which fragmented in lava and glaciers; vapors and flames, uproars volcanoes breathing traumatic larva, ferns and flints in a ceaseless magma of America, there where the land ends, and the feathered Andean serpent sighs immense ancestral dreams.

The volcanoes names, Chakras of wisdom, sacred Apus, repeat themselves from South to North; spreading out vertebral and telluric graphemics of the American continent, which in tremble, eruptions and tears awaken the immense and sleeping fire tongued serpent, whispering its powerful names in vernacular languages. In the Mapudungun of the Araucanía, the Llaima and the Futaleufú. Further North where the deserts displace in the fractured Nasca plaque, the Misti in accumulated rage can calcinate anything born under its shadow. In the equatorial line, the Cotopaxi and Imbabura twins solve their disputes amongst ashes and lava. The Tolima tarnished with gold offerings from Chibchas and Quimbayas. In the mystical plateau resound drums and sacrifices of the Popocatápetl.

In the present project appears the telluric force of the American continent displaying from South to North seven volcanoes created by the sculpture Hugo Marín, another way of speaking about the creative-destructive forces of America. Aligned inside their glass boxes in parallel to the digital murals created by Alexander Sutulov, where once again emerges the Andes and the gold Galleons of Charles V, crewed by souls in pain from an old and avid world. This installation, where ancestral and telluric forces of America dialogue with loaded navels of gold and grief, is a visual and poetic revision of the world from the South, which in view of its creators radiates new eras of civilizations symbolized as the blue child carried along by the penitents.
