Thanks a lot Marty. I do believe luck is the intersection of opportunity and preparedness. I am certain I will see my share of disappointments as I strike out on this endeavor. Instead of reinventing the wheel and making all the same missteps that others make, I wish to harness this wealth of experience, advice and knowledge and maximize my efforts to create opportunity for myself in the art world. I am going to think about your advice and I am certain I will have some more questions for you in the near future.

Thanks so much.
I have shown my work in Slack Space ( an art co-operative using empty shops) in my local town since i gained my degree. I havent sold anything through them though. I am now branching out to London Gallery submissions and Rise Art Online Gallery, Blank Media online website and Green Pebble Magazine, which is an East Anglian Magazine. I am doing a group performance in london on 26th June, which i hope will highlight this side of my work. I have sold a few pieces to people i know. I am aware that my work/concept is not to everyone's taste but I have to be true to myself and my art. I would appreciate any advice. Sioux
My art sells often. It is more than half of my income. I'm fifty seven and have been making art my whole life. Generally I relied on physical work to pay the majority of my bills. The physical work is getting to be hard on my body so a few years ago I decided to focus on making a living through art sales only. I'm getting close to that objective. I own a house on the South Side of Chicago with my partner. She has a studio in the backyard that I out grew. (work got big) My studio is across the street from our home in a building I watch over for a friend in Germany. We own a full Chicago lot next to my studio building that is a substantial garden. We live inexpensively.

Most important thing is to make your art and show it. Show it anywhere. Meet people, talk to people, become social, it's your job. Shot for premium venues but show even if you don't get in the best place. Think of ways to show, look for opportunities, BECOME AN EXPERT INTERNET RESEARCHER!!! Get an Etsy account because it is cheap and a good litmus test. Become a professional artist. If you can not do these types of things because your art will be branded by it perhaps you're an art teacher.

I start with developing a regional presence. Any venue within a days drive from home is good. I look for galleries that might be open to the art I make. This in the beginning is my base financial support. You can load up the vehicle and go on art tour moving new work to the best seller and spreading older work to areas where it is not so old. There is a genre of store that is gallery and shop or art shop. These places can make small item sales, 100 -300.

That's a beginning, eh? I was on a roll but I gotta go.

Ask questions if you like.
