It seems that according to most Galleries and art consultants that it is so important to create a style and a series of pictures (with some kind of theme) if you wish to have your
work exhibited these days.

But I for one do not really wish to be restricted in these ways.  I simply prefer to create my pictures when an idea strikes me as being worthwhile, regardless of any theme.

As for exhibiting at exhibitions, or in Galleries (I have been fortunate to do both) I have come to the conclusion that it would be so much better, if my pictures could be shown where they belong, rather than competing with each other on an exhibition wall. This is probably the reason why a theme is desirable, apart from the marketing advantage. But I wonder how you all feel about this?

i feel similere, but like you i also have had no issiues sending submissions top galleries, i think that showing in galleries is a way of just showing work, i do it to atempt to show myself and tell my story,i dont do this to compete. But to do this it takes money. and this takes time. so its good that you can do both, and have the freedom to do so, im the same at the moment. dont know how long it will last.
best.
Dear Nigel, Thanks for your thoughts, but to clarify my comment about the pictures competing with each other, I was only referring to my own pictures competing with each other, not about competing with other artists. With best wishes, John
