Why is UK Figurative Arftst, Jack Vettriano, despised and reviled by Art Establishment ?

UK Figurative Artist, Jack Vettriano is the most successful artist in the UK. He sells more prints than all the Impressionists combined as well as UK Contemporary Artist yet is he reviled and despised by the UK  Art Establishment.. The question is WHY ?  Are UK artists jealous and envious of  his success. His paintings are reminenses of he 1940's

Because he's terrible. It's dated, not contemporary as you said reminiscent of 1940's work and he's become a factory of art for calendars, and kitsch media. Contemporary artists should (at least attempt) to move things forward, break new ground - at least that's my view but perhaps I'm completely wrong.

Garrett  your wrong--- you sound exactly like the UK art establishment. Another artist reviled by the art establishment is Friedrich Hundertwasser who produced and sold prints in edition of 25,000 , all sold out . Not only is Hundertwasser an excellent painter but and outstanding architect way ahead of  the environmental whackos of today with there green energy solar panels crap. He designed houses with gardens on the roofs ! Years ahead of today environmentalists.
