Comment by gustavo vazquez king on May 11, 2012 at 7:19 Cuando el artista es censurado por enseñar un desnudo, " masculino o femenino ",

Comment by W.T.Richards on February 2, 2012 at 8:24 Back in 2010 France put in place internet censorship by blocking and filtering searches and sites listed by the government, the list of names, searches and sites was given to internet providers in France, to filter out or block the named sites, groups, networks etc with no chance for appeal by the citizens of France... This was done under the proposed security bill LOPPSI. More censorship came in in 2011, with France adding more restrictions, requests for removals and site blocking...
France to block and filter internet 2010:-

June 2011:- http://opennet.net/blog/2011/06/french-government-plans-extend-inte...
Added to the SOPA and PIPA legislation and the compliance of other countries with the USA the internet will soon be censored (more) world wide ...
Just a thought...Have you ever wondered why they call it 'The Net', 'The Web' ?
Nets and webs are made to catch things. Seems an odd thing to call something a 'net' that was supposed to be free and open...
Comment by W.T.Richards on January 24, 2012 at 13:42 Some news which may affect future collaborative Art/Video Projects.
As you will all be aware, 'Megaupload' was recently closed down by the USA.(without the SOPA/PIPA legislation being in place)
Megaupload was a way of sharing files that were too large for a standard email attachment. I think I used 'Megaupload' or 'Fileserve' in order to send my personally filmed video clips onto the next person in the chain when we did Marty's/Praxis Group, Collaborative '20/Twenty' Video project. See here:- http://www.artreview.com/profile/publicPRAXIS and here:- http://www.artreview.com/profiles/blogs/20-twenty-no-1-a-strange-land
This kind of collaboration in future will not be so easy without the facility to share large files via internet storage/file share sites...
As of this week many more file share sites have been closed, restricted or shut dow and more will no doubt fall to the same fate. This will now affect any future projects we do as artists which may require us to send on large files such as video files/audio files via a file storage site for our chain projects such as was done on the 20/Twenty Video Project
see here for the list (so far) of closed file share sites:-

Internet Censorship is already happening without the SOPA/PIPA bill being in place

Comment by W.T.Richards on January 21, 2012 at 16:45 The USA have already started without SOPA, they closed down 'Megaupload site across the globe and arrested the company bosses/owners/staff etc in 6 countries.
Read links below for articles about the USA closing down Megaupload sites (seems they don't need or want to wait to pass SOPA/PIPA legislation to close down and censor anything they want) Free speech and freedom to use an open and free internet will soon be gone at this rate, they will censor everything...

SOPA/PIPA protest http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-16628143
Infringing on internet freedom is but one part, the US/Obama has already signed the NDAA legislation , by signing into law the NDAA, the president has awarded the military extraordinary powers to detain US citizens without charges or trial. (Obama signed this on New Years Eve!) This will mean Occupy Protesters and other protesters marches, people taking group strike action, people having public assemblies etc can be arrested and detained without trial...blogs, websites, social networks etc used by protesters will also be closed down...
See here about the NDAA http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2012/jan/02/ndaa...
Don't forget... In the UK, Occupy Protesters are now classed as 'Terrorists'. The same goes for the US Occupy movement...
