I would like to hear about artists working in these mediums which to me break down traditional barriers. One of my favourite artists exploring these mediums is Edith Abeyta, with whom I've recently collaborated.

I'm looking forward to seeing discussions develop in this group!
there is a girl in Melbourne, Australia, called cecilia fogelberg, who makes amazing soft toy, embroidered stuff which are very funny. I also like louise bourgeoise' body bits.
I like fogelberg's hunting trophies-- and that three-headed wolf on the website is amazing! Thanks for mentioning her.

I saw the bourgeois show when it was at the Tate recently. I had always loved her work but had only seen random bits. I was profoundly moved by her recent soft body pieces.
yes its the 3 little pigs that really got me too! I have a lovely quote of louise bourgeois' but its buried under some piles of junk. I will put it up here soon, when i find it. its about sewing.
She is so quotable-- if you find the sewing quote I would love to see it.
i found the quote, so here it is:

'When I was growing up all the women in my house were using needles. I have always had a fascination with the needle, the magic power of the needle. The needle is used to repair the damage. It's a claim to forgiveness.'
Any medium which expresses what you want is fair game. I recently started working with crocheting -- it would have given my Mom a kick since I gave it up after a few weeks as a kid. I recently found her old yarn and crochet/knitting needles in her basement when we were cleaning out the house after she passed, and decided to work with these as part of work exploring reuse, memory, and domesticity.
