Biennialization - what's the point?

Biennialization - what's the point?

What exactly means the fact that nowadays there are more than a hundred art Biennials taking place worldwide [and increasing]? Which factors may be at the core of this phenomena? "Articism", market moves, political interests?

NOT a biennial, but:

http://www.europebydesigners.com/call_for_entries.htm

BACKGROUND:
EUROPE BY DESIGNERS is an international artistic project whose aim is to unveil a multitude of images of Europe from the inside and from the outside. Design as the expression of a cultural vision, a political vision or a simple and unposed feeling... Design and its diversity as a new way to catch Europe.

THEME:
Designers, illustrators, photographers, design studios, collectives/crews, agencies... you are all welcome to submit an innovative, creative, exciting, personal and experimental work around the theme: "Europe : what does Europe mean to you?". We are expecting diversity and freestyle : all styles of outstanding visual media are welcome. Selected works will be featured online and, hopefully, through future exhibitions and book.

NO ENTRY FEE IS REQUIRED.
DEADLINE: 31st DECEMBER, 2008.

in my blog posted too!:-)

Zenta

I think that this form of marketing,or commercialization,(if you will), only gives the artist more space to be seen. I mean hell, what do you people want, just to hang on a wall somewhere?

Art is created to be seen and shared. Wherever it gets a platform it is welcome. However I am against any kind of politicisation and comercialisation of it.
